Duke Kahanamoku Beach Named #2 Beach in America for 2012

Duke Kahanamoku Beach has been named as the #2 beach in America for 2012, according to "Dr. Beach." Dr. Stephen Leatherman's annual list. Duke Kahanamoku Beach is the beach fronting the Hilton Hawaiian Village and made this year's list for the third consecutive year.

"Dr. Beach" has selected the annual Top 10 Beaches since 1991. Fifty criteria are used to evaluate beaches, which include water and sand quality as well as safety and environmental management. Dr. Leatherman is an internationally known coastal scientist.

• Duke Kahanamoku Beach
  Waikiki's widest stretch of beach
  The stretch of beach right in front of the resort is known as Duke Kahanamoku Beach and is the widest stretch of legendary Waikiki Beach. Named after Hawaii's legendary Ambassador of Aloha Duke Paoa Kahanamoku the beach is the perfect setting for a relaxing of fun filled day on the beach.
  
• Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon
  Five-acre salt-water lagoon and beautiful stretch of white-sand beach
  This area of the resort is perfect for relaxing and offers a range of entertaining water and beach activities. The landmark Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon reopened in 2007 after an extensive rejuvenation of its beach and swimming areas and is now equipped with a state-of-the-art water circulation system providing a serene environment to enjoy.
    
• Waikiki Beach Activities (independently owned and operated)
  When you want to rent beach chairs, umbrellas or other beach equipment stop by the Waikiki Beach Activities stand, conveniently located on the Village's beachfront near the Hau Tree Bar and by Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon.

Our impressive Waikiki Beach hotel is a water lover's dream. Offering the choice of five swimming pools the resort provides the perfect atmospheres to enjoy the water. Lounge poolside with a tropical cocktail. Play with the kids in the Keiki (children's) Pool. Savor the sun on the stunning shores of our exceptional Waikiki Beach Hawaii hotel.

• Paradise Pool
  Come enjoy the splashing fun with slides, waterfalls, spas and spectacular views! The Paradise Pool is the resort's newest pool and is a 5,000-square-foot family activity pool that boasts the longest slide in Waikiki and overlooks the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon. The aquatic playground is comprised of a two-tiered, freshwater swimming pool bordered by lava rock formations, meandering streams and bridges and lush, tropical landscaping. The pool features four slides including a 77-foot lava tube slide, three waterfalls and two heated spas. The freeform design of the pool’s perimeter offers poolside loungers privacy while sunbathing, reading or napping.

  In order to use the large water slides, you must qualify for, and wear, a daily wristband.  To qualify, you must be a registered guest, and children must be at least 3 feet tall.  All children under 4.5 feet tall must wear some form of flotation assistance, such as water wings, swim vests, or float suits.  Parents may provide their own flotation devices, or can purchase them at the Paradise Pool Stand for a nominal fee.

   
  Hours of operation:
  Daily 8:00 am to 7:00 pm (towel stand closes at 6:00 pm) and the slides are open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

  
  
• Super Pool and Keiki Pool (Children's Pool)
  This beachfront pool is located between the Rainbow Tower and Ali'i Tower and is adjacent to the Hau Tree Bar, a favorite spot. At our Super Pool enjoy over 10,000 square feet of splashing fun, just steps away from our beautiful beach. This grand pool is set amid spectacular surroundings - gentle waterfalls, lush tropical flora and lava rocks. Swimmers and sunbathers at the Super Pool have a superb view of Waikiki Beach and the crystal-blue waters of the Pacific. Our pool attendant provides complimentary towels for our guests' use, as well as sunscreen available for purchase. The pool attendant is available from 8:30 am until sunset.
   
  The Keiki Pool is a tiered pool off of our Super Pool, providing a shallow swimming pool area especially for our younger guests.
   
  Hours of operation:
  Saturday-Thursday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, (towel stand closes at 9:00 pm)
  Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closes early for the Rockin' Hawaiian Rainbow Revue)
    
• Tapa Pool
  The Tapa Pool offers another beautiful tropical setting for your sunbathing and swimming pleasures. This pool is located between the Tapa Tower and Diamond Head Tower. Guests can enjoy the Tapa Pool after sundown for a refreshing evening swim. Complimentary towels are also provided.

  Daily: 8:00 am to 10:00 pm (towel stand closes at 7 pm except for Friday when it's open until 10:00 pm)
    
• Kalia Tower Pool
  Located on the fourth floor the dramatic infinity pool, displays a mosaic-tiled maile lei intertwined with ilima and pikake flowers. The pool deck also offers a whirlpool, beautifully tiled with a Hawaiian ginger mosaic.

  Daily: 6:00 am to 8 pm
    
• Ali'i Tower Pool
  Featuring swimming exclusively for the guests of Ali'i Tower, this pool provides a truly private sanctuary. Lounge on the stunning sun deck. Or simply relax in the soothing whirlpool.
